Hawkwood 6: start the New Year not with a bang but with an apology...

Being a glutton for punishment I thought I’d start the new year with a quick look at my Amazon.uk page, with a view to sprucing up the biography and to amend the product info for my Kindle editions.

Imagine my surprise at seeing the following entry at the top of the page:

No Image available. Hawkwood Thriller 6 Hb. 7 Jan 2016

Available for pre-order. This item will be released on 7 January 2016.

This was news to me as I haven’t finished writing the damned thing yet..!

Frankly, I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry.

While Jamie Oliver might bang on incessantly about tomatoes and basil being best mates, I’m afraid my relationship with deadlines tends to be rather less convivial, much to my long-suffering editor’s despair. So, please accept my apology when I tell you that, sadly, there is no new Hawkwood novel due out this month, or next month for that matter. I haven’t even shown the unfinished manuscript to my publisher yet.

H6 is well advanced but it's still a work in progress and I'm afraid I can’t give a positive date for release – that’s if the novel is even accepted; not necessarily a given in the publishing world.

With regards to the above Amazon misinformation I've contacted the powers-that-be and, as a result, the publication date is now showing as January 2018.

God forbid it should be that long, however. With luck, that's just HarperCollins covering itself against unforseen events.

All I ask, therefore, is that you please bear with me. If HC likes the new one and gives the go-ahead, I'll update the blog page.

Until then...I do hope you all had a cracking Christmas and here's to a peaceful, prosperous and er, productive new year.
